Leaders Common Ground Program.

Beginning in fall 2006, the Center launched its first Common Ground Program, designed to bring together nonprofit executives for peer group sessions to foster open and frank discussion of issues affecting leadership in their organizations. Response to the program was so positive that the participants unanimously elected to continue the program for another year. In addition, the Center has gained the necessary funding for a second Common Ground Program to begin this fall. Both sections meet on a monthly basis to discuss issues of governance, board and staff relations, strategic planning and other topics of common concern to leaders of nonprofit organizations.  The group session allows participants to discuss mutual problems and issues, and secure practical solutions. Assessment and training in Emotional Intelligence are essential components of the program.  The program also incorporates protocols to evaluate the impact of the sessions on the participants' leadership skills and to measure what effect the program has had within their respective organizations.  As a supportive complement to the group sessions, each executive meets with a facilitator for individual coaching sessions that provide assistance in improving performance, reaching personal goals, and developing tactical plans for implementation of enhanced leadership.

"As participants in the Common Ground Program, we thought we would find “common ground"  among a group of diverse CEO's. Going through the ten month experience illuminated just how difficult it is to achieve true common ground while managing a not-for-profit organization.  We started the course altruistic and with high ideals, however, we were often simplistic and authoritative in practice. Our Common Ground experience acknowledged our strong points and made them stronger, unearthed our weaknesses and challenged us to face and overcome them, shaped us into stronger and wiser CEO's capable of directing our organizations to greater success."
